Agnès Varda, francuska fotografka i reżyserka filmowa, przedstawicielka francuskiej Nowej Fali, oraz znany francuski fotograf, uliczny artysta, ukrywający się pod inicjałami JR. Ona ma prawie 90 lat, on 33. Ona pracowała z Jean-Lukiem Godardem, on tworzy gigantyczne murale w różnych miejscach na całym świecie. Łączy ich zamiłowanie do obrazów, a zwłaszcza kwestionowanie sposobu, w jaki są pokazywane. Varda wybrała kino, JR tworzenie fotograficznych galerii na wolnym powietrzu. Poznali się w 2015 roku i od razu postanowili nakręcić film we Francji, z dala od wielkich miast.
Udali się w podróż starą, przerobioną na gigantyczny jeżdżący aparat fotograficzny furgonetką, w środku której znajdowała się fotobudka, a także sprzęt pozwalający wywołać zrobione zdjęcia i wydrukować je w wielkim formacie. W ten sposób powstał dokumentalny film drogi – portret zanikających powoli francuskich peryferii, z dala od miejskiego zgiełku, które w wyniku rozwoju technologicznego stały się głęboką prowincją.
She is almost 90, he is 33. She is a French photographer and film director, a representative of French New Wave. He is an acclaimed French photographer. She has worked with Jean-Luc Godard, he travels the world to make tremendous murals. She has chosen cinema, he – outdoor galleries. What connected Agnès Varda and a street artist known only as JR, was a shared love for pictures – and questioning how they are displayed. They met in 2015 and immediately teamed up to shoot a film, one directed far from big cities.
They went on a journey in an old van, revamped into a huge digital camera. Inside, they put a photo booth and all the equipment necessary to print out the photos in huge sizes. This way, they created a documentary road movie. The film is a portrait of gradually dying out French outskirts. Remote from hustle and bustle, they are becoming a backcountry.
